SOME THINGS AREN'T MEANT TO BE

For several years now I have wanted another cat.  Right before Christmas I saw this cat at an adoption site in a PetSmart.  Her name is Callie!
She had been rescued by Georgia Homeless Pets
(this is her photo from their website)

Our Charlie has been an 'only' cat for awhile so we decided to foster Callie to see if Charlie would accept another cat....
While Callie was use to being around other cats
and was very relaxed and happy...

Charlie was not!
Reluctantly we decided that Callie was not going to be able to stay with us.

Charlie is 11 years old and set in his ways and we decided that a change this big and stressful was not a good thing for him.  We love our Charlie and he must come first in our pet decisions.

It's amazing how fast one can loose their heart to an animal...Callie stole mine long before she came to visit and she will still have a place there forever
I know she is safe and will find her forever home soon.
Goodbye sweet girl!

Some things just aren't meant to be....

  3. Oh Linda, Callie is a beauty. You made the right decision though. At Charlie's age, that kind of change can have a detrimental effect on him. I have seen it happen many times throughout my years of animal rescue and fostering.

  4. What a beautiful cat but it doesn't make your decision any easier, no matter how right!

  5. We have our little Reuben, he is an only inside dog, and we have debated about getting another pup but I do not think that he could handle it either! Love your new blog.....I have a hard enough time keeping up with one!

  6. Oh, I'm so sorry, Linda. That must have been so difficult. I have a very healthy respect for you being strong enough to put Charlie first. I know it was no less difficult for you to come to the decision about Callie.

We have four cats, but before husband and I were married, I started off with one. Lucky. He was 5 years old when Pumpkin showed up at our doorstep, but the lack of acceptance was the other way around. Pumpkin pummeled Lucky on a regular bases and made Lucky very stressed out during those times. It took a little over two years for it all to calm down around the house, and until then, we had to keep them separate. It was a three ring circus, let me tell you. I love them both so much, but it was truly a huge ordeal and Lucky went through a terrible time of stress when his fur fell out. I wish I hadn't done that to him, but my son had fallen in love and Pumpkin with him. They were inseparable. It took nearly another year after the pummeling stopped for Lucky's hair to grow back. :-(

I know your decision was difficult, and you'll always have a place in your heart for Callie, but I also know that you know what is the very best for Charlie. It would have been super tough on him.

    Blessings and hugs to you,
    Susan

  7. Cats are creatures of habit. Mine are bankrupting me! They sit and meow until I open the cupboard for their wet food! They are very naughty! Callie was sweet. But I understand that Charlie rules the roost! Both cats are just beautiful! Love to you! Anne
