N is for NEW!

Do you like new?
How about just 'new' to you?

Now that I am retired and on a limited income I usually look for used or 'new to me' items first!
I have bought small appliances, home decor, dishes, books and clothes all from the thrift shop or yard sales.
I have saved so much money!
My friends and family know I buy thrifty gifts.
I also buy thrifty items for my Grandchild!
Clothes especially are such a bargain.  I have found some wonderful books that can cost up to $15 new but used as low as 40 cents!  Tiger doesn't care and my daughter is thrilled!   I do buy some new for him but when I can save money I do!

I can only think of a few items I would not even consider buying used (undies & bras)...I'm just sayin!  But I know many that will buy those items used.  I do say to each their own.  I also don't buy many used shoes...mostly because I have foot issues and must have certain kinds of shoes, but I do look for bargains.
Looking around my house I see that most items I have are 'new' to me but used!

How do you feel about New?

Tell Me Tuesday

This weeks question from Suzanne at Coloradolady is
What is the most unique thing you own?

This was hard because I have a lot of stuff, junk and treasures.  Mementos, keepsakes, heirlooms and I could go on and on.  So what makes them unique?
Then I realized the one item I have that is like no other is this ring
This ring is very special
When my Dad passed away almost 6 years ago my Mom took his wedding ring and her wedding rings to a jeweler and had them made into this new ring
Mom wore her original wedding rings until they were thin at the back and had to be fixed
she never wanted another set nor a bigger diamond, she loved her rings as they were but wanted to combine their love into this
She calls it 'our ring'
Her fingers have thinned with age and she is afraid to wear it now, afraid it will fall off her finger and be lost.  She gave it to me and I wear it always.  I will pass this on to my children one day.  It is a testament to a love that lasted for over 50 years of marriage and is still going strong even though death has parted them....for now!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

I have been looking for a party about photography that would suit my limited photography skills but also be a challenge.  I found it this week at

Each week there are 5 prompts for photos
This week is my first time joining so here we go!

1. Love
My sweet Grandson Tiger means Love to me!

2. Duplicated
This one stumped me for a little while, then I saw these two Blue Ridge plates.  They are hand painted following the same pattern
duplicated but unique

3. Trend
Not being a very 'trendy' gal I decided to photograph my Chrome Book that my techie daughter gave me...I do love it!

4. Paper
This one was easy!  My Valentine from my guy!

5. Plastic
Vintage plastic nut cups

I really enjoyed this and hope you will go by
and visit Ashley and Scavenger Hunt Sunday

M is for Murder

I love to read!
Some of my favorite books are Mysteries!
Murder Mysteries!

I have been reading some series lately that are called
Food Mysteries!
Two of my favorite authors are
Joanne Fluke and Diane Mott Davidson
Joanne writes about Hannah Swenson who runs a business called The Cookie Jar.  Of course through no fault of her own she keeps finding dead bodies!
So of course she feels like she must help solve the mystery!  These are fun and lighthearted and have the best cookie recipes in each book!

I have read all but Cinnamon Roll Murder due out in March!  I took most of this series to my Mom and she has enjoyed these easy to read mysteries!

The other author Diane Mott Davidson writez about the quirky caterer Goldy who also seems to have a problem with murder following her around!  Lots of fun watching her get involved in solving the crimes and cooking some delicious food as well!
Of course there are recipes in each book!

I've read all of these and enjoyed them all!

So if you enjoy a fun food based murder be sure to check out these two authors.  There are many more but these two are my favorites!

Songs That Bring Back Memories

I missed last weeks question on Tell Me Tue but this week I am glad to be back!

Today's Question
What songs bring you back to really great moments in your life?

You would think that is easy but at age 61 I've heard lots of songs that bring back so many memories
I'll pick a few to share on this Valentine's Day

Do You Want To Know A Secret by the Beatles
I was a young teen when the Beatles hit the US and life was never the same!  I was lucky enough to see them in concert at the Hollywood Bowl!
I love this song as it's playful and sweet and just reminds me of being a teenager!

Annie's Song by John Denver
I know, I know....but this song made me cry and feel joy and so much love!  I associate it with a man I fell hard for but in the end we parted.  He wrote me poetry and was the most romantic guy ever! This was our song and I remember it with sweet memories!  I saw John Denver in concert a couple of times and cried when he sang Annies's song!

Rubber Ducky Your The One by Sesame Street
So you know where this one is going right?  My girls who are the great joy of my life, were great fans of Sesame Street.  We had records and we sang the songs all the time and danced and had so much fun.  Bath time was great and this song just reminds me of when they were little ones!

I see I could go on and on but I will share one more song that is one of my all time favorites

Remember When by Alan Jackson
Nostalgic, sweet and full of love!  I know my life took some turns I didn't expect and it wasn't exactly like I planned, but all in all I'm a happy woman!

K Is For King

Stephen King that is!

I love to read and I read a lot!
Many different authors, but not Stephen King..
WHY?  because he is scary and I don't like scary

One of my best friends is also a big reader and we trade books all the time.  She told me about his new book from Stephen King

11/22/83
image from Amazon.com

What can I say....this is one of the best books I've ever read!  He is an awesome story teller and really captured my imagination!  This 1,000 page novel might be the longest book I've ever read cover to cover!
It's about what If!  What if you could go back and stop the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy
How would things change?
Would you change history if you could?
Should you?

Do yourself a favor and read this awesome thought provoking and intriging story!

I just might have to read more Stephen King
as long as it's not scary!
